Pick a mountain that matches your experience. 6,000 m peaks such as Pastore and Laila suit climbers with basic glacier and alpine skills. 7,000 m peaks such as Spantik and Diran need previous high-altitude experience. 8,000 m peaks need solid experience above 7,000 m, and K2 and Nanga Parbat should only be attempted by climbers who have already summited an 8,000 m peak.
The climbing season in the Karakoram runs from June to August, with the most stable summit windows usually in July. Nanga Parbat is best in June and July, before the late-summer snow. Read our guide to the best time to visit Pakistan.
Every peak needs a climbing permit from the Gilgit-Baltistan government, a royalty fee that depends on the height of the mountain, and in most cases a liaison officer. Our team prepares the application, books the briefing and debriefing, and handles every form for you.
We provide a Letter of Invitation for your visa; see our Pakistan visa guide. Insurance with helicopter rescue and high-altitude mountaineering cover is mandatory for every expedition; read our travel insurance policy.
