Travel Insurance Policy

Why we recommend travel insurance for your trip to Pakistan, and what a good policy should cover.

Last updated: October 2026DTS Licence DTS-GB-094

Overview

At The Golden Adventure (TGA), your safety comes first. We strongly recommend that every traveller buys travel insurance before travelling to Pakistan. Please note that TGA does not provide or sell travel insurance, so you will need to arrange your own policy with an insurer of your choice.

What Your Insurance Should Cover

When choosing a policy, we recommend cover for:

  • Medical treatment and hospital costs in Pakistan.
  • Emergency evacuation and repatriation, including helicopter rescue for treks and mountain areas.
  • Trip cancellation and interruption, so you are protected if you have to cancel or cut your trip short (see our Booking & Cancellation Policy).
  • Lost, stolen or delayed baggage and personal belongings.
  • Travel delays, for example because of cancelled domestic flights.

Treks, High Altitude & Expeditions

If you are joining a trek or expedition, such as the K2 Base Camp Trek, Nanga Parbat via Fairy Meadows or Rakaposhi Base Camp, make sure your policy:

  • covers trekking up to the maximum altitude of your trip;
  • includes helicopter rescue and emergency evacuation from remote areas;
  • covers the activities you plan to do, such as trekking, climbing or jeep travel.

Many standard travel policies have altitude limits or exclude trekking, so always check the small print.

Your Responsibility

  • Arranging travel insurance is the responsibility of each traveller.
  • Any costs for medical treatment, evacuation, rescue or cancellation that are not covered by insurance are paid by the traveller.
  • Please share your insurer's name, policy number and 24-hour emergency phone number with us before your trip, so our team can help quickly if needed.

How TGA Helps in an Emergency

Although we do not provide insurance, our guides and office team will support you in any emergency: arranging first aid, transport to the nearest medical facility and contacting your insurer and family on your behalf. Read more about our safety approach on our About Us page.

CHOOSING A POLICY

How to Choose Travel Insurance for Pakistan

Not all travel insurance is the same, and many standard policies stop at a certain altitude or exclude trekking. Before you buy, read the wording carefully and check these points against your itinerary:

  • Destination: make sure Pakistan, and the regions you will visit, are covered by your travel insurance.
  • Activities and altitude: trekking cover should match the highest point of your trip, for example about 5,050 m on the K2 Base Camp Trek or about 4,000 m on the Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek.
  • Rescue and evacuation: helicopter rescue and medical evacuation are essential in remote mountain areas.
  • Cancellation and delays: mountain flights and roads can close because of weather; good travel insurance helps with extra costs.
  • Medical expenses: choose a high limit and check how the insurer pays hospitals abroad.

Keep a copy of your policy number and the insurer's 24-hour emergency phone number with you, and share them with our team before you arrive. Government advice can help you compare policies; see the UK's guide to foreign travel insurance. For how insurance links to cancellations and refunds, read our booking and cancellation policy and payment information.

High treks like K2 need insurance with altitude and rescue cover.
