OVERVIEW

Your First Summit in the Karakoram

Pastore Peak (6,209 m) rises from the Baltoro Glacier between Urdukas and Concordia, in the heart of the Karakoram. Its snow slopes are not technical, yet the summit view takes in K2, Broad Peak, the Gasherbrums, Masherbrum and the Trango Towers.

The Pastore Peak Expedition follows the classic Baltoro trek from Askole, climbs Pastore Peak from a base camp on the glacier, and then continues to Concordia for views of K2. It is a great introduction to Karakoram mountaineering for climbers with basic glacier skills.

WHY THIS EXPEDITION

Why Choose the Pastore Peak Expedition?

The Pastore Peak Expedition combines a real summit with the classic Baltoro trek. It suits fit trekkers with some glacier and crampon experience who want to stand on a 6,000 m peak in the Karakoram.

You see the same giants as on our K2 Base Camp Trek, plus a summit of your own. After Pastore Peak, try Laila Peak or Spantik.

Before you travel, read our Pakistan visa guide and our advice on travel insurance; helicopter rescue cover is mandatory. Browse all our mountain expeditions in Pakistan.

BEFORE YOU GO

Good to Know

  • Experience

You should be a fit, experienced trekker with basic skills in crampons, ice axe and roped glacier travel. Our guide runs a refresher session at base camp.

  • Acclimatisation

The approach up the Baltoro gives good acclimatisation, and we add a rotation to Camp 1 before the summit.

  • Permits & Royalty

Every expedition needs a climbing permit from the Gilgit-Baltistan government, a peak royalty fee and, for most peaks, a liaison officer. Our team handles the application, briefing and debriefing in Islamabad or Skardu.

  • When to Go

June to August is the season for the Pastore Peak Expedition, with the most stable weather usually in July. Read our guide to the best time to visit Pakistan.
