What You Can Do on a Tourist Visa
- Holidays, sightseeing and visiting cultural and religious sites.
- Trekking and climbing, with the extra permits that some areas and peaks need.
- Visiting friends (a Family Visit Visa may suit relatives better).
- Attending short events as a visitor.
You cannot work or do business on a tourist visa. Business meetings need a business visa; filming and journalism usually need special clearance.
Validity, Entries and Length of Stay
A tourist visa is usually valid for 3 months. You can choose single entry, or multiple entry if you plan to leave and come back, for example over the Khunjerab Pass to China. Some nationalities can get longer multiple-entry visas: US nationals, for example, can be issued visas of up to 5 years with a maximum of 3 months per visit (see our US guide).
If you need more time, you can extend inside Pakistan up to a total of 6 months.
Who Needs a Pakistan Tourist Visa?
Almost every foreign visitor. The exceptions are citizens of the Maldives and Nepal, holders of a NICOP or Pakistan Origin Card, and a few special cases. Since 1 January 2026 the free Visa Prior to Arrival for 126 countries is no longer offered, so most tourists now apply for this paid visa. Check your country in our country guides.

Group Tourism Through a Licensed Operator
Pakistan's visa policy includes a group tourism category for groups whose trip is organised by a designated licensed tour operator.
