Requirements by Type of Traveller
Independent tourist in hotels
The simplest case: passport, photo, itinerary and hotel bookings whose dates match the dates in your form. Free-cancellation bookings are fine.
Staying with friends or family
Your host provides a signed invitation letter with a copy of their Pakistani ID card (CNIC) and their address. Foreigners of Pakistani origin may prefer the Family Visit Visa; see our origin guide.
Tour, trek or expedition
A Letter of Invitation from a DTS-licensed operator showing your itinerary is the strongest supporting document. Expeditions to peaks and treks in restricted zones also need permits arranged by the operator.
Business visitors
You need an invitation or recommendation letter from a Pakistani company or chamber. See our business visa guide.
Children
Every traveller, including babies, needs their own passport and visa application.
Passport Validity and Condition
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the day you arrive in Pakistan and have blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Damaged passports can cause problems at the airport, so renew a worn passport before you apply. The visa is linked to your passport number: if you get a new passport, you need a new visa.
Extra Documents You May Be Asked For
- Flight bookings or a return ticket.
- Proof of funds or employment, for some nationalities.
- Details of previous visits to Pakistan and other countries in the region.
- For journalists, film crews and researchers: details of the project, as these trips can need special clearance.
Reply quickly if the visa office asks for more, because the processing time restarts when you resubmit.
Documents to Carry When You Arrive
- Passport and a printed e-Visa.
- Return or onward ticket.
- First hotel booking or your Letter of Invitation.
- Arrival card, which can now be filled in on the Pak-ID app.
