Foreign visitors generally do not need an NOC or trekking permit for Fairy Meadows, Beyal Camp or Nanga Parbat Base Camp on the Rakhiot side, which are treated as open-zone trekking. Police record visitors' details at Raikot Bridge, and you pay for the jeep road and local camping. Climbing Nanga Parbat itself needs an expedition permit.

Do You Need a Permit?
The 2019 decision that removed NOCs for most of Gilgit-Baltistan covers Fairy Meadows and the Rakhiot side of Nanga Parbat. Sources describe the trek to Beyal Camp and Rakhiot base camp as open-zone trekking, with no trekking permit or entry fee required for foreigners. Rules can change locally, so we confirm before each trip.
At Raikot Bridge
- Police at Raikot Bridge on the Karakoram Highway note visitors' passport details. Keep copies of your passport and visa handy.
- From Raikot a jeep road climbs to Tato village, and you walk the last stretch to Fairy Meadows. Jeep prices are fixed locally per vehicle.
- Camps and guesthouses at Fairy Meadows charge for stays and camping.
Climbing Nanga Parbat
Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) is above 6,500 m, so climbing it needs an expedition permit; summer royalty for Pakistan's 8,000 m peaks other than K2 is about US $2,500 per climber. The Rupal and Diamir sides have their own approaches.
