The Katas Raj Temples Pilgrimage is a 3-day yatra to Katas Raj in the Salt Range of Punjab, an ancient complex of Hindu temples around a sacred pond that, according to legend, was formed from the tears of Lord Shiva.
Katas Raj is one of the holiest Hindu sites in Pakistan. According to tradition, when Lord Shiva grieved for his wife Sati, his tears formed two ponds: one at Pushkar in India and one at Katas. Around this sacred pond stand temples built over many centuries, and the Pandavas are said to have spent part of their exile here.
On the Katas Raj Temples pilgrimage we drive from Islamabad or Lahore into the Salt Range, spend unhurried time at the temples and the pond for darshan and puja, and visit the Khewra Salt Mine nearby. During Maha Shivratri, Katas Raj welcomes pilgrims from across Pakistan and beyond.
