OVERVIEW

Face to Face with the Killer Mountain

The Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek via Fairy Meadows is one of the most rewarding short treks in northern Pakistan. We drive through the Kaghan Valley and over the Babusar Pass to the Karakoram Highway, then take a thrilling jeep ride from Raikot Bridge to Tato and hike through pine forest to Fairy Meadows, an alpine meadow at about 3,300 m facing the Raikot Face of Nanga Parbat.

Fairy Meadows was named by Hermann Buhl, the Austrian climber who first summited Nanga Parbat in 1953, and was declared a national park in 1995. From here we hike to Beyal Camp and across the Raikot Glacier to Nanga Parbat Base Camp, with three nights in wooden cottages to enjoy sunrise and sunset on one of the world's great mountains. Our team handles every detail, from transport and jeeps to meals and porters.

WHY THIS TREK

Why Choose the Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek?

The Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek packs a huge amount into eight days. You stay at Fairy Meadows, one of the most famous viewpoints in Pakistan, with the Rakhiot Face of Nanga Parbat rising more than 4,000 m straight above your cabin. The walking is short and steady, and the big day to Base Camp is the only long one.

It is a great choice for active beginners, families with older children and travellers who want real mountain scenery without weeks on a glacier. Many guests use the Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek as their first trek in Pakistan before the Rakaposhi Base Camp Trek or the full K2 Base Camp Trek.

Want to know more about the meadow itself? Our Fairy Meadows travel guide covers the jeep road, where to stay and what to pack. You can also extend the Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek with a few days in the Hunza Valley or Skardu. Before you travel, read our Pakistan visa guide and our advice on travel insurance.
