The Swat Valley Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour is a 6-day journey to Swat, the ancient Buddhist land of Uddiyana, with great stupas, carved rock Buddhas and monastery ruins set among green hills and rivers.
The green Swat Valley was known in ancient times as Uddiyana, a land of more than a thousand monasteries according to early Chinese pilgrims. Tibetan tradition honours it as the birthplace of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), and the valley is still full of stupas, rock carvings and monastery ruins.
On the Swat Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour we visit the Butkara stupa, the great Amluk Dara stupa near Mount Ilam, the Shingardar stupa, the carved Jahanabad Buddha, the hill site of Udegram and the Swat Museum, with quiet time for meditation along the way.

The Swat Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour is perfect for pilgrims who want peaceful sites in beautiful countryside. Swat is greener and quieter than the plains, and its stupas and rock Buddhas sit among orchards, rivers and hills.
It is especially meaningful for followers of Tibetan Buddhism, who honour Swat as the birthplace of Guru Rinpoche. Combine it with the Taxila Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour, or choose the Buddhist Pilgrimage Tour of Pakistan for both.
