The Indus River Dolphin Tour is a 5-day trip to Sukkur in Sindh to see one of the rarest river dolphins in the world, the nearly blind Indus River Dolphin, by boat on the Indus, with birding along the river.
The Indus River Dolphin lives only in the Indus River in Pakistan. It is almost blind, finds its way by echolocation, and surfaces every minute or so to breathe. Thanks to conservation work, the population has grown, and the stretch of river near Sukkur is one of the best places to see it.
On this tour we spend two mornings on the Indus by boat with a local boatman and dolphin expert, watching the dolphins surface and learning about the work to protect them. We also go birding along the river and visit the Sukkur Barrage and the Sadh Belo temple island.
Our team meets you at the airport and transfers you to your hotel.

The Indus River Dolphin Tour is a rare chance to see an animal that lives nowhere else on earth. The dolphins are shy and surface briefly, but on a calm morning you can watch many of them from the boat.
It is an easy trip and can be combined with our Indus Valley Civilization Tour or Sufi Shrines Tour, which both pass through Sukkur.

Dolphins are seen on almost every boat trip near Sukkur, though they surface only briefly. Calm, cool mornings give the best views.
The boat trips are easy and suitable for all ages. Bring a hat and sunscreen.
We follow local rules for dolphin watching: slow boats, no chasing and plenty of distance.
October to March is the best time, when the weather is cool and the river is calmer. Read our guide to the best time to visit Pakistan.
